Course Description:

The Lake Macbride Fat Tire Classic is a Fat Bike race like no other.  Presented by Sugar Bottom Bikes and The Solon Centennial Lions Club, the race will take you around scenic Lake Macbride on twisty pea gravel, flowing singletrack, scenic beaches, blazing fast double track, hilly and steep snowmobile trails, challenging hiking trails, and some scenic gravel roads.  The past 3 years the fast end of the race has finished at around 2 hours with the back end of the race taking as long as 5 1/2 hours.  This race has become infamous for its difficulty with 2500 feet of climbing crammed into the 22 mile course.  The 2021 course will be very similar to the 2020 route, if not exactly the same.  Prepare for the same type of terrain and effort!  We will still make an attempt at crossing the Macbride Spillway to access the South side of the park, but may not know whether or not we can do this until a week before the race.  One thing is for certain, the race distance will be between 20 and 27 miles with an expected finish time of 2-5 hours.  *Many of the trails in the race are not permitted for bikes EXCEPT on race day.  Please do not ride these routes until the day of the race.

Timing/Awards:

The race will be manually timed by volunteers so please be patient with us.  When crossing the finish line please STOP to verify your number and finishing time with the timers.  We will be collecting results for 4-5 hours from the start of the race.  If you cross the finish line more than 4-5 hours from the start you will need to stop and sign in with your finishing time.  There will be no awards or party after this years event.  After you finish your race please do not congregate in large groups.  You are welcome to enter the clubhouse for food and drinks, just like going to any other restaurant or establishment.  Please do not use the clubhouse as a changing room or bathroom.

Porta potties will be available for restrooms and changing, but we do recommend trying to come prepared.

Please respect all COVID precautions if entering the clubhouse for dining or drinks.

Course Markings/Navigation:

We will be marking both the ride and race course with big arrows and course tape but GPS Computer Navigation is absolutely recommended.  We cannot be held responsible for people who choose not to use GPS Navigation.  Markings can get knocked down by riders and wind or stolen and switched by mischievous kids.  If you have any questions please feel free to ask us or stop in to your local bike shop for guidance.

STAY TUNED FOR AN ANNOUNCEMENT ON Course Files.  The current files posted are NOT accurate for 2021.

Race and Ride for a Cause!  All event proceeds will be used for charitable causes by the Solon Centennial Lion's Club.

Postponment/ Rescheduling

In order to present the safest and most fun event possible, we will reserve the right to move the start of the race forward or back 1 hour in order to achieve more favorable conditions.  In addition to this we will reserve the right to postpone the race to Sunday the 14th, with a backup date of Saturday Feb. 23rd.  We also have the potential to present a heavily modified course in order to hold the event on trails that are not affected as much by adverse weather/temperature conditions.  Two of the most likely situations that would cause event changes would be excessive mud and/or active rain or blizzard type situations.  In the event of heavy snowfall the night/morning before the race we would not have enough time to properly groom the course and a 1 day delay could be necessary.  *Unfortunately in the event of total cancellation of the event we will not be able to offer refunds.
