Course Description:

The Lake Macbride Fat Tire Classic is a Fat Bike race like no other.  Presented by Sugar Bottom Bikes and The Solon Centennial Lions Club, the race will take you around scenic Lake Macbride on twisty pea gravel, flowing singletrack, scenic beaches, blazing fast double track, hilly and steep snowmobile and hiking trails, and may even venture on to the Lakeview OHV park for added fun.  The past 2 years the fast end of the race has finished at around 2 hours with the back end of the race taking as long as 5 1/2 hours.  The past 2 years this race has become infamous for its difficulty with 2500 feet of climbing crammed into the 22 mile course.  The 2020 course will be similar to years past, with the exception that we will only be doing 1 lap of the hilly snowmobile trails in Lake Macbride Park instead of 3 brutal laps.  Stay tuned for more course info as we are working on getting permits to use new land and trails.  We will still make an attempt at crossing the Macbride Spillway to access the South side of the park, but may not know whether or not we can do this until a week or two before the race.  One thing is for certain, the race distance will be between 20 and 30 miles with an expected finish time of 2-5 hours.  *Many of the trails in the race are not permitted for bikes EXCEPT on race day.  Please do not ride these routes until the day of the race.

Stay up to date via social media!

Timing/Awards:

The race will be manually timed by volunteers so please be patient and respectful towards us.  When crossing the finish line please stop to verify your number and finishing time with the timers.  We will be collecting results for up to 4 hours from the start of the race.  If you cross the finish line more than 4 hours from the start you will need to stop and sign in with your finishing time.  Awards will take place in the club house at 1PM.  Racers receiving cash payout will be expected to be present for podium ceremony in order to collect their cash and prizes.  In the event that epic conditions could cause longer ride times, we will push back the ending time of scoring and the awards as we see necessary.

Course Markings/Navigation:

In contrast to years past, this year the RACE course will be very lightly marked in some areas and not marked at all in others.  GPS Computer Navigation is absolutely recommended and necessary.  We cannot be held responsible for people who choose not to use GPS Navigation.  There may be a few questionable spots where even GPS can't be certain, and these spots will be marked with arrows but other than that you will need to rely on your GPS for guidance.  GPS Navigation has become extremely easy to use and extremely reliable and we are confident everyone should be able to access and use this technology in the year 2020.  If you have any questions please feel free to ask us or stop in to your local bike shop for guidance.

The 11 mile Fat Fun Ride course will be marked. If you see markings they are most likely for the Fat Fun Ride and racers GPS files should override what the course markings say.

Postponment/ Rescheduling

In order to present the safest and most fun event possible, we will reserve the right to move the start of the race forward or back 1 hour in order to achieve more favorable conditions.  In addition to this we will reserve the right to postpone the race to Sunday the 16th, with a backup weekend of Feb. 22nd/23rd.  We also have the potential to present a heavily modified course in order to hold the event on trails that are not affected as much by adverse weather/temperature conditions.  Two of the most likely situations that would cause event changes would be excessive mud and/or active rain or blizzard type situations.  In the event of heavy snowfall the night/morning before the race we would not have enough time to properly groom the course and a 1 day delay could be necessary.  *Unfortunately in the event of total cancellation of the event we will not be able to offer refunds.

Race and Ride for a Cause!  All event proceeds will be used for charitable causes by the Solon Centennial Lion's Club.

OTSO Cycles will be on site with a van full of Voytek Fat Bikes to DEMO!!!!  If you are interested in DEMOing a bike for the event, please click the link below to email us with a requested size S, M, L, or XL.  We will require a $50 fee to reserve a demo which will be donated to ICORR to use towards future trail projects.  If you just wanna ride a bike around the start finish area, no action is necessary just show up and shred a sweet carbon Voytek Fat Bike.  OTSO will be at Sugar Bottom Bikes from 2-6PM Friday the 14th to set you up with our demo.
